Definitely have a meal late afternoon before the crowds arrive at Hergetova Cihelna over looking the Charles Bridge. Take alot of time to watch twilight slowly descend over the city and bridge from this restaurant's great clear windows that give an unobstructed view. Eat a lesiurely meal! and have the best hot chocolate in the city! Just relax! If you go later, about 6pm, make reservations ahead.

When in Prague I look for restaurants serving good food at modest prices (under 300 Kc entree range) and easy to reach from public transport. This trip we found a number that fit those qualifications. First, while with guide Sarka Pelantova, we went to Plzensky Restaurace very near Andel metro and tram stops (www.klubpp.cz/plzenskyrestaurantandel/ website in Czech). Very crowded when we arrived in evening but Sarka had reserved us a table. Mostly Czech clientele. We liked the food and beer. Somewhat oddly it has a two lane bowling place downstairs one sees on the way to the WC. Another place we really liked was recommended by another poster here Restaurace Tamada (www.tamada.cz/index_En.html). It is several blocks from Karlovo Namesti metro. Website has menu and map. We ate there twice and had some of the Georgian specialties. We also liked Pivovarsky Dum near tram stop Stepanska (www.gastroinfo.cz/pivodum/index-a.html) and Na Verandach, the restaurant connected to the Staropramen brewery. Nadrazni 14 located right at tram stop Na Knizeci, one tram stop from Andel metro station. Beware Na Verandach is often reserved so finding a table not always possible. Another evening we were with Sarka again and she wanted to check out some more modest Czech places and we ended up at Restaurace Stoleti at Karoliny Svetle 21 in Old Town. Its website (www.stoleti.cz/open_en_fs.htm) has English menu and location information. A final dinner suggestion is another Andel location. Corleone Ristorante Pizzeria right across street from Andel metro. It had good pizza, salad, and beer. Two breakfast places we liked were Cafe Lourve at Narodni 20 (www.cafelouvre.cz) and H20 at Opatovicka 5. Both are near Narodni Trida metro and tram stops.

From the lot of Prague restaurants I would like to recommend one a bit hidden place in so called "New World" area of Hradcany. It is called U Raka (info@romantikhotel-uraka.cz)and you can find it in Cernínská street No.10. Speciality of this place is its` outlook. The restaurant is situated into exact replica of wooden house from the year 1739. It is the only house of this style you can find in Prague. It has also beautiful garden. Once you entre through heavy wooden door you will be in another world, in another century!! Meanwhile you enjoy caffe or glass of wine you can learn about our history and life of common people in past centuries. The whole house and its` beautiful and quiet garden are like museum. I have not find a better place for afternoon rest in the whole castle area! The only disadvantage might be opening time from 14.00. I highly recommend this place for romantic and relaxing moments!!! I took a sunset cruise with music and food. I like all kinds of food, but would not take another cruise with food involved. Would recommend either one with a menu to order or just drinks. Boat was fun with music and interesting view of the city but would bypass the food. Big disappointment. Margaret Hanks from Austin Texas

We happened on the Italian restaurant Aldente near the Spanish Synagogue. The owner is from Torino, Italy and his restaurant has just been opened for four months. The food was wonderful and authentic Italian. It was definitely our favorite restaurant.

There were too many good ones to just pick one favorite. The best suggestion we can offer is to get away from the touristy areas. Just a block off the main streets will get you very good food for very reasonable prices. One of our favorite dinners during our 9 day stay was a traditional type Czech meal, and it cost $60 USD (including beverages and tip) for four adults.
